Mangalore, July 22: Air India has organized an All-Religion Memorial Service in memory of those who perished in the Air India Express flight IX-812 on May 22 at Mangalore. The service will be held at the T M A Pai International Convention Hall, M G Road on July 27, at 10 am.

The airline has requested all family members and friends of the deceased to join in the prayers which will be held at Dr TMA Pai International Convention Hall on M.G. Road, Kodiabail, Mangalore from 10am to 11.15am. Special transport arrangements have been made to pick up and drop relatives from the nearby towns of Bhatkal, Kasargod and Udupi, with relatives being asked to contact the airline’s helpline numbers if required.


A commemorative plaque has also been erected at the crash site where relatives of the victims will be taken after the prayer service. Present on the occasion will be M.M. Nambiar, Secretary, Ministry of Civil Aviation, and Arvind Jadhav, Chairman and Managing Director, Air India.


Meanwhile, the airline is likely to announce the final settlement of compensation to the families of the crash victims. Air India disbursed an interim amount of Rs1 million (Dh777,000) immediately after the crash. An agency appointed by the airline is also cataloguing the belongings, particularly valuable items, recovered from the crash site.


The Court of Inquiry appointed by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation to probe the crash is expected to submit its report by the end of August. Three members of the Court visited Washington between June 21 and June 25 for the analysis and decoding of the Cockpit Voice Recorder (CVR) and Digital Flight Data Recorder (DFDR) at the facilities of the National Transportation Safety Board.
