Washington, July 6, 2025: Tech billionaire Elon Musk has launched a new political outfit, the America Party, vowing to challenge what he called the U.S. "one-party system" dominated by Democrats and Republicans.
Once a top donor and ally of President Donald Trump, Musk fell out with him over the administration’s massive spending bill, which Musk claims will add $3.4 trillion to the national debt. Calling it “debt slavery,” he pledged to oppose lawmakers who supported the bill.
On his platform X, Musk declared the new party’s formation on Independence Day, citing a poll where two-thirds of over 1.2 million respondents supported a break from the two-party system.
He said the party would target vulnerable House and Senate seats in upcoming elections to become a deciding force in U.S. politics. The feud escalated after Trump reportedly threatened to strip Musk’s companies of federal funding and even floated the idea of deporting him.
It remains to be seen how the America Party will impact the 2026 midterms or the 2028 presidential race.
