Shivamogga, July 5, 2025: Shivamogga MP BY Raghavendra said that Union Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari will inaugurate the new cable-stayed bridge between Ambaragodlu-Kalasavalli in Sagar taluk on July 14 and urged the government to name the bridge after the bridge after the Chowdeshwari deity.

Speaking at a press conference at the BJP office here on Saturday, he said that this is the second largest bridge in the country, built at a cost of Rs 473 crore and is 2.44 km long.

It has been decided to name it ’Sigandur Sri Chowdeshwari Bridge’ as this bridge connects Sigandur, a major pilgrimage centre in Karnataka. He urged the state government to submit a proposal to the Centre by giving an NOC in this regard.

He said all parties have struggled for the construction of the bridge. But former Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa’s contribution to its construction is significant. Initially, Yediyurappa had given grant of Rs 100 crore for this work. In addition, the National Highways Authority of India had offered to divert the money earmarked for the construction of the bridge elsewhere. At that time, Nitin Gadkari was upset and Yediyurappa had worked hard to get that money back,’ he recalled.

BJP district unit president N K Jagadish, MLAs Araga Jnanendra, S.N. Channabasappa, MLC Dhananjay Sarji, former minister Hartalu Halappa, former MLA Ashok Naik, and leader S Dattatri were present at the press conference.
