Mangaluru, December 2, 2025: Mangaluru International Airport (MgIA) demonstrated prompt emergency preparedness when it efficiently handled a mid-air medical situation involving a passenger on Air India Express flight IX 522 late on Monday.
The flight, operating from Riyadh to Thiruvananthapuram, was diverted to Mangaluru after a passenger in his late 30s developed a medical emergency on board. The Airport Operations Control Centre immediately received the alert and activated the standard emergency response protocol.
Airport authorities swiftly mobilised the medical team and coordinated with key stakeholders, including CISF, immigration, and customs, to ensure a smooth and rapid response.
Upon landing, airport medical personnel assessed the passenger and arranged for his transfer to a nearby tertiary-care hospital. The passenger’s relatives accompanied him, and preliminary medical assistance provided in-flight reportedly helped stabilise his condition before arrival.
After the emergency was efficiently managed, the flight resumed its journey and departed for Thiruvananthapuram at 2:05 am on December 2.
“We appreciate the exemplary cooperation of all parties involved. This incident reaffirms our commitment to passenger safety and our readiness to respond to unforeseen emergencies with professionalism and care,” an airport spokesperson said.
