mcc june 7Mangalore, June 7: Mayor Rajani Dugganna said that the people of Mangalore have lauded the Mangalore City Corporation (MCC) for concretizing 20 roads of the city within 2 years, adding that the MCC intends to work step by step to construct drainage and footpaths. She was addressing reporters at a press conference organized in the Mayor’s Chamber at MCC on June 7, Monday. She also assured that steps are being taken to clean the drainage systems during the monsoons.

Comparing the achievements of the Congress and the BJP governments, she said that people suffered from scarcity of water and irregular water supply when the Congress was in power, but people can now enjoy 24-hour water supply thanks to the efforts of the BJP government. She said that the Mangalore Health Department has been placed in the 8th rank by the central government for waste management, adding that the single package system will be soon implemented. She also criticized the opposition party for raising objections to all the development work taking place in the city instead of cooperating with the ruling party.

MCC Commissioner Dr. K. N. Vijayaprakash said that the state government has sanctioned Rs 100 crore for the first phase of the road concretization project, out of which Rs 65 crore has been released. Later an additional amount of Rs 6 crore was released; however, an amount of Rs 64.27 crore was spent on 20 roads.

The MCC will spend Rs 25 crore of this fund for concretization, Rs 25 crore for asphalting, Rs 10 crore for drainage facility, Rs 1 crore for Town Hall development, and Rs 2 crore for traffic management, he said.

He also informed the public to file complaints on the traffic system or Mescom by calling 2220344 or 2220306, assuring that the officials will be on duty 24 hours a day.
