Bengaluru, December 31, 2025: Union Minister of State for Railways V. Somanna has announced that Mangaluru will soon be connected by the Vande Bharat Express. Railway sources indicated that the proposed Vande Bharat train is expected to operate between Bengaluru and Mangaluru.
In a social media post late on Monday night, Somanna said that the long-standing demand of the people of the Mangaluru region for a Vande Bharat train is close to being fulfilled.
He also highlighted the completion of electrification work on the 55-kilometre ghat section between Sakaleshpura and Subrahmanya Road. Calling it a major achievement, the minister said the project was executed across one of the most challenging ghat terrains and reflects Indian Railways’ commitment to modern, resilient, and clean-energy infrastructure.
According to Somanna, the route is now fully prepared for electric traction, which will enable cleaner, faster, and more efficient train operations, while also supporting further railway infrastructure development in the region.
The minister was responding to a social media post by former Infosys Chief Financial Officer Mohan Das Pai, who had reiterated the long-pending demand for a Vande Bharat train service between Bengaluru and Mangaluru.
