Mangaluru, July 23, 2025: Road repair work has commenced on the stretch from the KIOCL junction near the Kulur old bridge on National Highway 66 to Ayyappa Temple, located on the outskirts of the city. Due to the resulting traffic diversion, a severe traffic jam has been reported from Baikampady to Nanthoor.
Since early morning, heavy congestion was seen on the highway near Kottara Chowki, with vehicles lined up for kilometers. Long queues of vehicles were visible from KPT to Nanthoor and Kottara, while on the other side, traffic was stuck beyond the bridge, extending past Baikampady.
The repair work is scheduled to take place from 8:00 PM on July 22 to 8:00 AM on July 25. In light of this, Mangaluru City Police Commissioner issued a public notification on Tuesday afternoon announcing changes in traffic flow.
As part of the changes, the new Kulur bridge towards Udupi has been converted into a two-way road. This diversion has caused major congestion between the KIOCL junction and both Kodikal Cross and Panambur junctions.
Although authorities have advised motorists to use alternative routes in case of heavy traffic, the changes themselves have resulted in massive jams.
