Mangaluru, Mar 28, 2026: In a tragic incident, a migrant worker died after an iron bucket filled with soil fell on his head while a new well was being dug at Salath Nagar in Kuthar, Ullal taluk, on Friday evening.

The deceased has been identified as Shivakumar G.K. (30), a native of Mallapura in Sorab taluk of Shivamogga district.

Worker dies

The incident occurred around 4:30 pm when work was underway to dig a new well at a vacant site in Salath Nagar, Kuthar. A total of six workers were engaged in the work, and three of them, including Shivakumar, were inside the 30-foot-deep well. While soil was being lifted using an iron bucket attached to a crane, the bucket reportedly got detached from the hook and fell directly on Shivakumar’s head.

Severely injured, he was immediately rushed to a private hospital in Deralakatte, but is said to have died on the way. The two other workers inside the well escaped with minor injuries.

The body has been sent for post-mortem, and a case has been registered at the Ullal police station.

Shivakumar is survived by his wife, a three-year-old son, and a one-year-old daughter. The family was residing in a rented house in Thokkottu. He had celebrated his younger daughter’s first birthday just two weeks ago, and had sent his wife and children to his hometown only a day before the incident.
