Mangaluru: Head constable dies after mistakenly consuming rat poison

Mangaluru, July 30, 2025: A police head constable attached to Mangaluru North Traffic Police Station died after allegedly consuming rat poison, mistaking it for medicine.
The deceased, identified as Manjunath Hegde (44), was a resident of Chelyaru near Surathkal and a native of Harekala.
Reports indicate that Hegde, who was undergoing Ayurvedic treatment for a health condition, accidentally ingested the poison believing it to be part of his prescribed medication.
He was rushed to the hospital in critical condition but could not be saved despite efforts.
Hegde is survived by his wife and two children.
