Mangalore plane crash: Koya lodges complaint, says he is alive

Mangalore Today News Network

Kasargod, Jun 7, 2010: Shahnawaz Mohammed Koya of Pallikkanattil in Kozhikode has lodged a complaint at the Indian Consulate of Dubai, in which he has stated that he had not been aboard Air India Express Boeing IX-812, which crashed at Mangalore International Airport on May 22, claiming 158 lives. Records state that a man, who was travelling by the ill-fated plane using Koya’s passport, died in the tragedy.

Koya clarified in his complaint that he was not on board the ill-fated plane and added that an unidentified person had travelled by that plane using passport number 0606599, which was issued in Koya’s name. He called for a detailed investigation to be conducted regarding the matter because a fake passport racket, termed “Kasargod Embassy,” was operating from Kasargod.

Owing to this complaint, the family of plane crash victim Abdul Samad of Kannur, is finding it difficult to claim compensation. He had travelled in the name of Abdul Samad Shanawaz, Pellarattingal House, Arakinar, Kozhikode.

Koya’s family found his passport number in the list of plane crash victims, called him up, and was relieved to find that he was safe. The officials, who have received the complaint, are making enquiries. The government will be answerable later if it gives away compensation and relief to those who travelled using fake passports.
