Mangalore, June 5, 2012: The Matha Amrithanandamayi Mutt of Mangalore, the district administration, and the Environment Pollution Control Board organized an environment protection awareness programme as part of World Environment Day celebrations in Town Hall today.
Dr. K. N. Vijayaprakash, the CEO of DK ZP, inaugurated the event. Dr. N. S. Channappa Gowda, deputy commissioner of DK, and A. G. Pai, the director of JBF Petrochemicals, were also present.
An environment awareness jatha was held from Light House to Town Hall through Jyothi. Valuable information about disposal of waste, recycling, and others was given on this occasion.
Meanwhile, Gateway Hotel and Regional Transport Office (RTO) organized a free emission test for four wheelers and two wheelers as part of the World Environment Day. The hotel authorities also distributed paper bags free of cost among citizens to create awareness about the dangers of using plastic bags.
Gateway Hotel also organized a painting competition for kids as part of World Environment Day.
