Mangalore, Dec 7, 2013 : When the seaplane service was proposed at a couple of places in Mangalore some time back in collaboration with Karnataka Tourism Development Board and the Kerala Tourism Department, many had hoped to enjoy the facility which would connect the mesmerizing backwater landscapes in the two states.
But as things stand by that would be a distant dream. Information available as of now reveal that the project has to be dropped for want of the required land. Earlier, it was estimated that the project would require at least seven to ten acres of land, but sources now reveal that non-availability of land has been a great setback for the project.
Earlier, the plan was to start the service at Gurpur on the banks of Phalguni and near the International airport. As per the plans six-seater CESSNA 206H aircraft was to provide connectivity to Mangalore, Tiruvananthapuram and Kozhikode cities.
Now that the seaplane project has been shelved, it has met the same fate as that of the sky bus and mono rail projects.
