Mangalore: Medical students stage protest demanding arrest of rapists

Mangalore, June 23, 2013: A huge protest was staged in front of the Deputy Commissioner’s office in the city on June 22, Saturday by students of various medical colleges demanding immediate arrest of those responsible for the gang rape of a medical student of KMC at Manipal recently.

Abhilash PV, Senate Member of the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, who addressed the protestors, said  the students want the arrest of the rapists immediately and ensure justice to the victim. He also urged the police not to bow before any pressure.

 

 

 

He also requested for steps to ensure that such incidents did not recur and sought intensive night patrolling in the area.

He also suggested that the IGP convened a meeting of security personnel and wardens of all hostels as well as college authorities to discuss the issue.

The students later submitted a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner with regard to their demands.
