Mangalore, June 09:  To mark the completion of ten decennial of mangalorean.com, ten eminent personalities from three major faiths, who had rendered selfless service to the poor, the downtrodden and to the community, were to be felicitated at Milagres Jubilee Hall on on Sunday June 9, 2013.


However, only seven could make it and grace the occasion : Leo and Laveena Rodrigues- Best Mangalorean NRI Entrepreneur Couple; Grace Pinto-Best Mangalorean Educationist; Bajpe Abdul Khader Mohideen- Best Mangalorean Community Leader;  Rohan R Monteiro- Best Mangalorean Youngest Entrepreneur;  Dr Rathi Devi Best Mangalorean Medical Professional Woman; Seeliya Simmith-Best Mangalorean Young Achiever,  and ’Management Team’ of Jeevadhan HIV/Aids Centre-Best Mangalorean NGO.

Ms. Violet Pereira, Editor- In-Chief of Mangalorean.com, welcomed the gathering. The Chief Guests of the celebration, Bishop of Mangalore Dr Aloysius D’Souza, Vice-Chancellor of NITTE University, Dr Shantaram Shetty  along with Violet Pereira and Joseph Pereira cut the Commemorative Cake to mark the 10th birthday of the website.
 
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Shantaram Shetty said that the personalities who were felicitated are the vibrant of the society. Mangalore has played an important role in molding these individuals as personalities of Mangalore. These individuals are responsible to contribute to the society and they have done it tremendously. Mangalore is a vibrant city. People should follow the tradition and culture of the city, he urged.
 
Dr Shetty further said that in the corrupted society, media and judiciary has to work hand-in-hand to eradicate the same to an extent. First 10 years is very important and difficult to individuals as well as institutions to sustain. Mangalorean.com has successfully completed the 10 years and now is into the most vibrant age, he added.
 
Bishop Aloysius D’Souza, said that “A child has three parents, Father, Mother and Media. Media has a drastic impact on people especially individuals. Hence media has to be very responsible in molding the society”.
 
The awardees Leo Rodrigues, Grace Pinto and Bajpe K Moideen also expressed their feelings on the occasion. Organizing Committee Member Anil D’Souza delivered the vote of thanks.

On behalf of mangalorean.com, a donation cheque was handed over to Superior Sr Catherine of Jeevadhan Centre, from Fathima Education Trust set up by mangalorean.com, by the Bishop of Mangalore.
