Mangalore, Dec 28, 2012: CPI(M) workers staged a protest in front of the Deputy Commissioner’s Office in Mangalore on December 28, Friday, condemning the police lathi charge against the CPI(M) activists who were on a padayatra demanding a ban on Made Snana at Kukke Subrahmanya Temple and Pankti Bedha in Udupi Sri Krishna Mutt.
Addressing the protestors, CPI(M) District President B Madhava demanded that the government banned such evil practices instead of lathi charging peaceful protestors. Governments which encourage such superstitious practices have no right to remain in power, he said.
KR Sriyan, State Committee Member of the CPI(M) who also spoke, alleged that the government was hesitating to ban these practices just to protect the interests of a few people. He also challenged the Pejawar seer who gives lengthy speeches against caste based discrimination , to stop Pankti Bedha in his Udupi Mutt.
Sunil Kumar Bajal, Vasanth Acharya, Sooraj Bajal, Santosh Kumar, CT Suvarna and others took part in the protest.
