Mangalore: Awareness programme on crime against women held at St Agnes College

Mangalore Today News Network

Mangalore, Jan 6, 2013: Asha Nayak,  senior advocate and chairperson of the CWC, has said that medical evidence was crucial  in rape cases as there would be no eyewitnesses in most of the cases.

Speaking at an awareness programme on rising atrocities on women held at St Agnes College in Mangalore on January 5, Saturday, she said  as evidence is not  gathered  properly, the rapists invariably go scot free   many a time.

She also cited several other reasons which allow the accused escape the noose of law and said inefficiencies in the police system, muddled up  medical reports and incomplete forensic analysis are just some of the reasons.

Nayak further strongly felt that even judiciary was insensitive towards rape victims. Principal Dr St Prem D’Souza, presided over the function.

A signature campaign seeking protection for women was also launched. A dance ballet ‘From womb to tomb’ was presented.
