Mangalore Airport to have new technical block

Mangalore Today News Network

atc towerMangalore, Apr 20, 2012: The Airports Authority of India (AAI) has approved the construction of a new air traffic control tower and technical block at Mangalore Airport to improve security.

Rs. 18 crore has been released for this project and the foundation stone will be laid on April 22 Sunday. The new building will be constructed behind the fire station at the airport.

The new technical block will be well-equipped with modern communication systems to facilitate easy landing and take off. The systems can be used to communicate information regarding temperature, environmental condition, and others at the time of landing. In case of technical snags or emergencies during the flight, the pilot can communicate the information to the technical staff, which in turn will send it to concerned departments.

Mangalore Airport handles 30 – 40 flights per day and the number is expected to go up because the airport is soon to be declared as an international airport.
