Man brandishes gun in car on Bengaluru–Mangaluru Highway, arrested after video goes viral

Bengaluru, Jan 20, 2026: Panic briefly prevailed among commuters on the Bengaluru–Mangaluru National Highway after a man was seen brandishing a gun while seated inside a car, causing alarm to motorists and the public.

The incident occurred near the Talakere hand post in Bengaluru South district. A video showing the man displaying the weapon from within the vehicle soon went viral on social media, drawing widespread attention.

Eyewitnesses said the sight of the gun created fear and confusion among road users, leading to a tense situation in the area for a short while. Several commuters expressed shock, unsure of how the situation might escalate.

Authorities are yet to confirm whether the weapon seen in the video was real or a replica. The incident has triggered strong reactions online, with many raising concerns over public safety.

Taking suo motu cognisance of the matter, the Kuduru police registered a case. Police sources confirmed that the owner of the car involved has been arrested, and further investigation is under way to determine the motive and circumstances behind the act.
