Malpe artists create sand sculpture for AIDS awareness

Udupi, December 1, 2011 : Three artists belonging to the Manipal Sand Heart Team created a sand sculpture to enhance awareness on HIV/AIDS issues on Malpe Beach in commemoration of World AIDS Day on Nov 30 Wednesday.

Srinath Manipal, Ravi Hirebettu, and Venki Palimar in collaboration with Corporation Bank created a sand sculpture as part of the World AIDS Day program organized by the Health and Family Welfare Department.

The artists began working on the sculpture at 8:30 a.m. and finished it at 3:00 p.m.

The sculpture is surrounded with placards bearing messages such as “Avoid the scare, be aware,” “Protect yourself, respect yourself, spread awareness, not disease,” “End the dread, stop the spread,” “AIDS bagge tilisi, deshavannu ulisi,” “Surakshita laingikate nayantranakke daari,” and others.

The purpose of creating a sand sculpture is to enhance awareness regarding HIV/AIDS among the public, especially the youth.
