Mangalore, Oct 17, 2011: Delivering the inaugural address after inaugurating the Human Rights Protection Conference organized by the Karnataka Justice Forum on Sunday, V. T. Rajashekar, the editor of Dalit Voice, demanded that the state government should not only release Abdul Nasir Madani, the leader of the People’s Democratic Party, who has been in the Bangalore Central Jail for the past 14 months, but also apologize to him.

Further speaking on the issue, he said that Madani was arrested only for political reasons in spite of the fact that the police did not have any evidence to prove the allegations against him. Stating that Madani had waged a true “Jihad” against oppressive Brahmin forces, he said that the Brahmin forces have collaborated in sending him to prison by making baseless allegations against him.

Stating that the BJP-led Karnataka government’s move to re-arrest a man who was acquitted after spending 9 years in Coimbatore Central Prison for crimes he did not commit is a violation of human rights, Rajashekar said that the silence of the Supreme Court in the matter is also disheartening.
Lamenting that thousands of Muslims all over India have been persecuted, he said that only Muslims in Jammu and Kashmir have hit back, adding that even the Muslims in Gujarat are now supporting Narendra Modi, who “is responsible for the killing of thousands of Muslims in 2002.”

In conclusion, he urged Indian Muslims not to keep quiet about the arrest of Madani and to protest intensely lest they suffer the same fate.

Alhadi Ibrahim Thangal presided. K. L. Ashok, the secretary of the Karnataka Komu Sauharda Vedike, Swami Varkalraj Thiruvananthapuram, the PDP working secretary; and Ilyas Mohammed Thumbe, the president of the PFI Karnataka branch, were also present.
