MSEZ Rehabilitation Colony water crisis leads to bore well controversy

MSEZ Rehabilitation Colony water crisis leads to bore well controversy

Mangalore Today News Network

Mangalore, April 9, 2012 : The representatives of the Mangalore Special Economic Zone (MSEZ), who had visited the MSEZ Rehabilitation Colony to identify a place to dig a bore well on Saturday, as per the requests sent by the residents of the colony through the Hitharakshana Samithi, went back just because one individual in the colony raised objections.

sez 1MSEZ sent its representatives to identify a place to bore a well when one of the residents who has dug a bore well for himself, raised objections. After a heated argument, the representatives left the spot without bothering to solve the problem. The company had sent its representatives in acknowledgement of the request for a bore well placed by the residents of the colony, who are facing severe water crisis.

The attitude of the individual who raised objections has enraged the entire colony, which states that he does not have to struggle for water since he has enough of it, but the rest of the colony is finding it difficult to procure even on tumbler of water.

According to the residents, the individual is worried that the water level in his bore well will go down if another bore well is dug in the vicinity. One of the residents said that MZEZ has identified a place far away from the private bore well so the objecting individual does not have to worry about water in his bore well getting depleted.

Speaking on the issue, Muktananda Melanta, the member of the Hitharakshana Samithi, said that the company need not listen to the objections of an individual since the place identified by it is on public land. He also said that it is MSEZ’s responsibility to provide water to rehabilitated families and wanted to know if the objecting individual can supply water to the 20 families who live in the colony if the company refuses to dig the bore well just because of his objections.

Enraged residents have warned MSEZ that they will picket the DC’s office if the company fails to supply water.
