Lokayukta police arrest taluk office surveyor for receiving bribe

Udupi, Jan 10, 2012 : The Lokayukta police have arrested C. M. Mahesh, a taluk office surveyor, in the act of receiving a bribe on Jan 9 Monday.

Lakshman Salian of Uchila had purchased land at Uchila Bada and had applied for its survey, but Mahesh said that he will do the job faster if Lakshman Salian pays him Rs. 4,500.

 

 

Accordingly, Lakshman paid Rs. 2,500 and said that he would pay the balance the following day. However, when he paid the balance the following day, the surveyor said that he wanted Rs. 1000 to survey a plot belonging to Lakshman’s mother-in-law. He also demanded Rs. 2000 more to prepare a map of the plot. Although Lakshman said the he could not afford it, the surveyor kept harassing him till a frustrated Lakshman approached the Lokayukta police.

The Lokayukta police involved in this case were C. E. Timmaiah and B. P. Dinesh Kumar and others, under the guidance of DySP Sadananda M. Varnekar and D. S. Jagamayyanavar, the Lokayukta superintendent.
