Mangalore, Jan 20: Acting on complaints lodged by Yathish Baikampady, the CEO of Panambur Beach Tourism Development Project, a Lokayukta police team led by SP Jagamayyanawar, DYSP Sadananda Varnekar, and inspectors Dilip Kumar, Uday Naik, and Laxmikanth arrested Adi Laxmamma, the assistant director of the tourism department.
Allegedly, Adi Laxmamma demanded money from Yathish Baikampady to receive tender from Jyothi Advertisers. This tender was called for the development of Tannirbavi Beach in a bid to make it as popular as Panambur Beach. Yathish Baikampady had applied for this tender, which is scheduled to be auctioned. A number of other companies had applied and Adi Laxmamma was trying to bargain with all of them.
Yathish lodged a complaint with the Lokayukta, which instructed him to speak to Adi Laxmamma over the telephone. The conversation, which was duly recorded, revealed that Laxmamma demanded a sum of Rs. 10,000 to act in his favor. She also instructed him to give her the money at Panambur Beach at 1:00 p.m. today. The Lokayukta team caught her red-handed when she was accepting the bribe money.
