Udupi, Nov 24, 2012:The people of Pakeeranakatte organized a protest on Nov 23, Friday, demanding strict action to be taken against a group of anti-social elements engaged in illegal activities in the area.

According to reliable sources, the group is involved in various criminal activities, and some of them are even accused of murder. Some of the members of this group are P. K. Mayyadi, Jaleel, Kabir, Basheer, Khalid, Jabbar, Ilias, Ibrahim, Sattar, and Hamzad.

Bashir Ahmed, former president of the local jamath, alleged that the group has been living in Pakeeranakatte for the past 2 years. They regularly consume ganja, steal cattle, and tease girls, he said.

On Thursday, the group attacked a few local people with knives and sticks, leading to a fight between the local people and the group, he said.

The local people have demanded that the group should be ejected from the area. They lodged a complaint at the Kapu Police Station and intend to lodge complaints with the deputy commissioner, tahsildar, and police commissioner soon.

The protest, which was peaceful, was led by U. K. Hameed, head of the jamath, B. Haider, Ittappa Anchan, Mohammed Iqbal, and Hariprasad.
