Mangalore, April 13: The Karnataka Border Area Development Authority Chairman and senior leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party, Chandrakant G. Bellad, has favoured bringing Chief Minister and legislators under the purview of the Lokayukta.
While expressing support for Anna Haraze’s movement for enactment of the Lokpal Bill, Mr. Bellad told presspersons here on Tuesday, “I have always favoured the strengthening of the Lokayukta. We (politicians) are responsible for corruption. All the legislators, including the Chief Minister, should be brought under the purview of the Lokayukta.”
Mr. Bellad was referring to the exclusion of the Chief Minister and legislators from the Lokayukta’s power to take suo-motu notice of maladministration and corruption. Mr. Bellad supported Swami Ramdev in his objection to include Shanti Bhushan and his son Prashant Bhushan in the Centre’s committee for drafting the Lokpal Bill.
“One can be dropped. The committee can take the advice (of the person dropped) when it seekiscomments of experts,” Mr. Bellad said. hindu
