Kudroli Gokarnanath Temple to organize religious ceremony for married women

Mangalore, Oct 30, 2011: Addressing reporters at a press conference held at Press Club today, Janardhan Poojary, the former union minister, said that Kudroli Shri Gokarnanatha Temple will organize a religious ceremony for 5000 married women on Jan 1, 2012 Sunday at 9:00 a.m. The temple is focusing on widowed as well as married women to improve the status of woman in society, he added. 


Speaking about the event, he said that 5000 women will participate in the event, which will include a Chandika Homa. The women will also resolve to be loyal to their husbands and protect them from difficulties. They will then offer aarathi and pull a silver chariot around the temple premises.

The women will receive presents of sarees, blouse pieces, bangles, a rupee coin, flowers, and vermilion after taking their resolution. Poojary said women will not be forced to attend, but will be invited to participate out of their own will. Interested women must register at the temple well in advance, he added. 


H. S. Sairam, the president of the temple committee; Padmaraj; B. G. Suvarna; and Harikrishna Bantwal were also present.
