Bantwal, Jan 14,2013:  The seventh edition of Kavita Fest-2013 held  at Basti Garden of Vishwa Konkani Sardar Basti Vaman Shenoy at Bantwal on January 13, Sunday, made it a poetic day, that gave food for thought, thanks to Kavita Trust, Konkani Language and Cultural Foundation and state department of Kannada and Culture. Uday L Bhembre, veteran Konkani activist and poet, inaugurated the event.

In his address, Bhembre said poets choose their themes based on their exposure and added if some chose to write on current scenario, others chose to describe nature.


Speaking on the topic of ’Poet and his Social Responsibility’, Bhembre said a poet can even contribute to social change through his writings that can be enlightening.  He also released an anthology of poems ‘Nekentran’ (stars) by Valli Vagga.  


 Mangesh P of Goa bagged the first place in the final round of ‘Rohan and Lavita Monteiro - All India Konkani Poetry Reciting Competition.’ Rochelle Diniz, of St Jude’s High School, Salcete, Goa bagged the first prize in the late Charles and Theresa Rodrigues - Memorial All India Konkani Poetry Writing Competition for students.  
 
The multi-lingual poetry session held during the fest was presided over by Uday Mhambro of  Goa. V S Bhat (Kannada), Amrita Athrady (Tulu),Kiran Parmar (Hindi), Indu Gersappe, Stany Bela, Wilma Bantwal, Francis Fernandes Cascia, Geo Agrar, Ashok Bhonslo, Dr L Suneetha Bai (all Konkani), Ashraf Apollo (Beary) recited their poetry.


Rajay Pawar, poet from Goa was honored with the Mathias Family Poetry Award for his contribution to the world of Konkani Poetry.

Fr Prashanth Madtha, Kannada-Konkani columnist and lexicographer was the chief guest for the closing ceremony.


 Kuncha Kahale : A 100 feet long canvas painted by nearly 31 painters under the theme ‘Kuncha Kahale’ was also on display.The various art works  highlighted the  destruction of nature in the name of development and gave the message to protect nature. The paintings of William J P, Sapna Noronha, Ganesh Somayaji, Jeevan AS, Dinesh Holla, Santhosh Andrade, Reshma Shetty were on display.


  Prior to the   inaugural, a colorful procession was taken out from BA Hospital Thumbay to Basti Garden and was participated by the delegates of Kavitha Fest.
