Kasargod, May 14, 2025: In a major breakthrough, Hosdurg police have busted a large-scale fake certificate racket operating out of Kanhangad, arresting three key suspects. The accused include Santosh Kumar (45) of Kovalpalli, the owner of the private firm at the center of the operation; P Ravindran (51) from Moukod, Cheruvathur; and Shihab (34) from Hosdurg Beach.
The illicit activity was allegedly based out of a center called ‘Net For You’, located behind the Pudyakote bus stand in Kanhangad. According to police reports, the trio were manufacturing counterfeit educational certificates, identification documents, and official seals using advanced computer technology and specialized equipment.
A police raid at the premises resulted in the seizure of multiple computers, hard drives, forged documents, and other tools used in document forgery. Subsequent searches at Shihab’s residence revealed additional fake materials, and Ravindran’s home was also examined for further evidence.
Authorities believe the gang was involved in producing a wide array of fraudulent documents, including:
* University degree certificates from across the state
* SSLC mark sheets and certificates
* Driving licenses
* Passports
Police described the operation as a “major forgery network” aimed at producing counterfeit documents for various illegal purposes. The investigation is ongoing, with officials indicating that more individuals could be connected to the racket.
The case has sparked serious concerns about the credibility of academic and government-issued documentation, and the impact such fake credentials for employment, verification systems, and national security. Further details are expected as the investigation progresses.
