Karkala: Cops arrest make-up artiste for killing lover, burying her body

Karkala, June 10, 2013: Police in Karkala have arrested  a make-up artiste on the charges of murdering a young woman after trapping her in his love.

 

The arrested person is Prabhaker Shetty (28) of Mittardottu in Hosabettu village,   a make-up artiste under the banner ‘New Amma Arts’.

According to sources, he  came into contact with Poornima Shetty (22) of Renjala a year ago and both were involved in an affair. When Poornima began to pressurize Prabhaker to marry her, the latter showed least interest. In the meantime, Poornima who had left home on June 3 to go to a bank did not return and her family had filed a case of missing with the Karkala rural police.

Though police had questioned Prabhaker initially, they could not elicit any information from him and he  had also joined the family in searching for Poornima.

 However, when the needle of suspicion was still pointed out towards Prabhaker,  he was enquired again and  this time he revealed the truth. Prabhaker told the police that when Poornima persisted that he married her, he  asked her to visit his work place where he stabbed her in the neck and abdomen and kept the body there for  a day. Later he with the help of a few friends, took the body in an autorickshaw to Hosabettu and dumped it in a trench and covered it with mud and stones.

On June 9, Sunday, police exhumed the body for autopsy. Two other persons namely Guru and Ambarish of Hosabettu too have been taken into custody. Another accused who assisted Prabhaker is said to be missing.
