Kannur: Sullia youth drowns in lake while visiting classmate’s home

Kannur/Sullia, July 21, 2025: A 19-year-old youth from Sullia tragically drowned in a lake near Kannur, Kerala.
The deceased has been identified as Astik Raghav, a resident of Balikala in Madappadi village of Sullia taluk. He was the son of Dr. Nanda Kumar, a retired taluk health officer of Sullia. Astik was a first-year dental student at a private dental college in Mangaluru.
On Sunday morning, Astik had travelled with a classmate to the latter’s house in Kannur, Kerala. Later, while taking a bath in a lake near the house, he reportedly slipped and drowned.
Following the incident, the host family informed others, and relatives from Kerala rushed to the spot. The necessary formalities are underway, and the body will be brought back to his hometown for the final rites.
