Inauguration of course on Forensic Odontology at A B Shetty Memorial Institute of Dental Sciences

Mangaluru, June 29, 2022: The Inaugural Program of 1st Certificate Course in Forensic Odontology started at A B Shetty Memorial Institute of Dental Sciences  held at Avishkar Auditorium on 27.06.2022 at 9.00am. Mr Hariram Shankar (IPS), Deputy Commissioner of Police (L &  O), Mangalore City was the chief guest. Prof. Dr. Prashanth Shenoy, Hon. General Secretary, Indian Academy of Oral Medicine and Radiology & Head of the Department for Oral Medicine and Radiology, Yenepoya Dental College was the Guest of  Honour.  Prof.(Dr.) U S Krishna Nayak, Principal & Dean, ABSMIDS presided over the function.

 

Dr.Kumuda Rao, Coordinator (Forensic Odontology Unit) gave a short introduction to the Forensic Odontology Unity and the Certificate Course and Welcomed the gathering.  Chief Guest Mr.Hariram Shankar addressed the gathering & stressed the need for Scientific Evidence in Crime Detection and appreciated initiation of this Course at A B Shetty Memorial Institute of Dental Sciences. Prof.(Dr) Subhas Babu introduced the Guest of honour. Prof.(Dr.)Prashanth Shenoy spoke on the significance of conducting the  course for overall benefit.  

Prof Dr Mahabalesh Shetty K spoke on the importance of Forensic Odontology in forensic identification and the importance of maintaining dental records.  Prof.(Dr) U S Krishna Nayak delivered the Presidential address and stressed the need to start such a course and the rarity of the same. Dr Urvashi Shetty delivered the vote of thanks. The programme concluded with the National Anthem. About 250 Dental Faculty,  Dental Practitioners, BDS Students and Interns attended the programme.
