INTACH to host talk on protection of Tulunadu’s Heritage Monuments

Mangaluru, July 4, 2025: The Mangaluru Chapter of the Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage (INTACH) is set to host an expert talk on the theme “Protection of Monuments: Threats and Challenges – with Reference to Tulunadu” on Saturday, July 5, 2025. The event will begin at 5:30 PM at the Kodialguthu Centre for Art and Culture, Ballalbagh, Mangaluru.

The session will feature noted historian and archaeologist Dr. Pundikai Ganapayya Bhat as the keynote speaker. A respected authority on the cultural and historical legacy of Tulunadu, Dr. Bhat holds an M.A. in Ancient History and Archaeology and completed his Ph.D. from the University of Mysore in 1995, focusing on inscriptions from the Tulunadu region.

With over three decades of experience, Dr. Bhat has served as a Lecturer at Sri Dhavala College, Moodbidri, and has devoted 35 years to the documentation and study of inscriptions, monuments, and oral traditions of coastal Karnataka. He has also participated in numerous archaeological excavations both in India and internationally, and has presented his research at several scholarly platforms.

Dr. Bhat is a prolific author in both Kannada and English and has to his credit two Karnataka Sahitya Academy award-winning books. His contributions have significantly advanced public understanding of Tulunadu’s rich heritage and the challenges it faces in modern times.

The talk is open to the public and is expected to draw heritage enthusiasts, students, and scholars from across the region.
