Almora, Uttarakhand, Nov 23, 2025: A major security scare unfolded in Dabara village after 161 gelatin sticks, weighing over 20 kg, were found near the Government Higher Secondary School in the Sult area on Saturday.
The explosive material was first noticed by school principal Subhash Singh, who spotted suspicious packets in nearby bushes and alerted the police. Two teams rushed to the spot, cordoned off the area, and summoned bomb disposal and dog squads from Udham Singh Nagar and Nainital.

A canine search led to the recovery of multiple packets of gelatin sticks concealed in bushes about 20 feet apart. The bomb squad later sealed and secured the explosives.
“161 gelatin sticks were recovered near the school and nearby areas were thoroughly searched,” said Almora SSP Devendra Pincha, adding that the reason for the explosives being brought to the village is under investigation.
A case has been registered against unknown persons under Section 4(a) of the Explosive Substances Act, 1908, and Section 288 of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita. Four teams have been formed to probe the incident.
The discovery comes days after nearly 3,000 kg of explosives were seized in Haryana in connection with the Delhi blast, amid heightened nationwide security and fears of terror modules planning serial blasts in major cities.
