Heavy to very heavy rain forecast for DK, Udupi districts for next four days

Mangalore Today News Network

Mangalurur, May 22, 2025: As heavy rains continued to pound Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts on Wednesday, Handadi Gram Panchayat in Brahmavara taluk of Udupi district received the highest rainfall of 271 mm in the State from Tuesday morning to Wednesday morning.

The India Meteorological Department has cautioned of heavy to very heavy rains, with gusty winds up to 40 kmph occurring at one or two places, and light to moderate rains across the two districts until May 25. Uttara Kannada district, meanwhile, was expected to receive extremely heavy rain until Thursday morning.

Heavy rain

Weathermen attributed the rains to an upper air cyclonic circulation extending up to mid-tropospheric level lying over Eastcentral Arabian Sea, off North Karnataka-Goa coasts at 5:30 a.m. on Wednesday. Under its influence, a low-pressure area was formed over the region during the day. Thereafter, the low-pressure area was likely to move nearly northwards and intensify further into a depression during the subsequent 36 hours.

IMD said widespread rains were observed in 17 districts of the State, including Udupi, Uttara Kannada, Dakshina Kannada, Dharwad, Raichur, Hassan, Bagalakote, Kodagu, Vijayapura, Yadgir, Vijayanagara, and Bengaluru Urban.
