Mangaluru, July 23, 2025: In light of the possibility of rain accompanied by strong winds in the coming days along the coastal region, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) and the Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre (KSNDMC) have issued a weather alert.
According to the advisory, heavy rain and strong winds are likely to continue across coastal districts, including Mangaluru and Udupi, till July 27. Wind speeds over the Arabian Sea are expected to increase, leading to rough sea conditions and high tidal waves.
Advisory – Public Guidelines:
* Stay away from the sea, rivers, and all water bodies.
* Fishermen are advised not to venture into the sea in boats.
* Children, workers, and the general public should avoid going outdoors during rain, strong winds, or lightning. Seek shelter in safe buildings.
* Farmers are advised to refrain from outdoor agricultural activities during this period.
* Do not stand near electric poles, wires, or trees. Stay away from fallen power lines.
* Residents of old or weak buildings should stay prepared for emergencies. Shelter should only be taken in safe, structurally sound buildings.
Landslide Alert – Safety Measures:
* There is a possibility of landslides in some hilly areas. Residents in such areas are advised to immediately contact the local tahsildar or gram panchayat authorities and move to the nearest relief centres.
This weather alert is being issued in view of a potentially worsening situation. The public is urged to exercise utmost caution, follow updates from the local administration and helpline numbers, and act responsibly.
