Mangaluru, Oct 19, 2025: Several parts of Dakshina Kannada district experienced thunderstorms accompanied by rain on Saturday night and Sunday evening, disrupting normal life in both urban and rural areas.
According to official data, the district recorded 10.1 mm of rainfall between 8 a.m. on Saturday and 8 a.m. on Sunday. The Meteorological Department has predicted moderate to heavy rainfall in the region for the next 10 days.
A low-pressure system over the Arabian Sea is moving westward, while another is likely to form over the Bay of Bengal, which is expected to enhance rainfall activity across coastal Karnataka, officials said.
Heavy showers on Sunday evening led to traffic congestion at Pumpwell in Mangaluru as rainwater accumulated on the roads due to poor drainage, causing inconvenience to commuters. The recurring waterlogging issue at Pumpwell has once again drawn criticism and humorous posts on social media.
Meanwhile, the Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre (KSNDMC) has issued a yellow alert for seven districts — Udupi, Dakshina Kannada, Chikkamagaluru, Chamarajanagar, Hassan, Kodagu, and Mysuru — warning of heavy rainfall until October 21.
