Mangalore, Jan 10, 2012: A procession carrying the Golden Throne (Swarna Simhaasana) of Lord Veera Venkatesha, the presiding deity of the Sri Venkatramana Temple at Carstreet concluded at the temple today, January, 10, 2012.

The Swarna Simhaasana and other paraphernalia were handed over to Srimath Sudhindra Thirtha, the Matathipathi of Kasi Math Samsthan in the presence of Sri Samayameendra Theertha, the junior swamyji, trustees and eminent members of the community. The junior seer Sri Samayameendra Theertha has arrived from Kanhangad to take part in the procession. He was accorded a grand reception upon his Pura Pravesha.

Sri Venkatramana Temple is gearing up for re-consecration (Punar Pratishta Mahotsava) consequent upon its renovation.  The Golden Throne studded with precious gems (Navaratnas) is the cynosure of all eyes and has reached the temple. It was taken on a procession from  Swarna Jewelry show room via Lady Hill circle, Kudroli, Alake and car street to the temple.  Over ten thousand people took part in the program.


Srimath Sudheendra Theertha Swamiji, the senior pontiff of the Kashi Mutt Samsthan is already in the temple since Monday to bless and re-consecration of the renovated temple. The Maha Prarthana of the Punar Pratishta Mahotsava will be held in the presence of the two swamijis on January 16,2012.

The newly renovated temple in all its grandeur and glory will be open for public viewing on January 11 and 12.


Shri Venkataramana Temple expects huge crowds for consecration and Car Festival
The Gowd Saraswath Brahmin (GSB) community of Mangalore can look forward to a wide range of religious events at Shri Venkataramana Temple from Jan 10 to Jan 31.

The religious festivities will commence with the consecration of the 208-year-old temple under the guidance of Shri Sudhindra Teertha Swamiji of Shri Kashi Mutt Samsthan, an event that is expected to attract anywhere between 50000 and 1 lakh devotees. The idols of Lord Veera Venkatesha, the presiding deity of the temple, will be installed on Jan 16.

The Car Festival, which is scheduled to commence on Jan 26, is expected to attract larger crowds. According to Suresh Kamath, who volunteers at the temple, the temple has made arrangements to serve meals to over 35,000 devotees on the day of the consecration and 50,000 devotees on Jan 17.

Media Coordinator Manju Neereshwalya, said that the temple has been receiving phone calls and emails regarding the events from GSBs not only in India, but also in different parts of the world.

According to Suresh Kamath, the temple will start experiencing the rush on Jan 15, one day before the consecration ritual. The crowds are expected to diminish after the consecration ceremony only to start swelling again at the Car Festival, which will give devotees a chance to not only enjoy the festival, but also admire the newly renovated temple.
