Speaking on the occasion, Rajashekarananda Swamiji of Vajradehi Mutt said that cows are ill-treated when they are moved from one place to the other. Quoting from the Gita, he preached about the importance of the cow in Hinduism. Comparing the cow to one’s mother, he urged all present to worship the cow regularly.

In his presidential address, Coastal Development Authority Chairman B. Nagaraj Shetty urged Hindus to do everything in their power to protect this animal.

Speaking about the objectives of this event, Govanithashraya Trust President Ananth Krishna said that Hindus have an ancient and strong relationship with cows. He said that the trust aims to enhance public awareness on the importance of cows, which are now being slaughtered mercilessly. He voiced his opinion that school children must be taught how to breed and take care of cows.

The chanting of Vedic mantras marked the beginning of the worship. Owners and devotees of cows brought their sacred animals to the venue, where religious discourses on cows and chanting of shlokas will be held for the following 3 days. The event will include cow worship, bhajan singing, Vishnusaharsranama, a little Krishna show, and a cultural show by blind children.

DKMUL President Raviraj Hegde, Prof M. B. Puranik, the VHP chief, and many others were also present.
