Mangalore, Jan 16, 2012: Furious media representatives rejected the gifts offered and gratitude expressed by the organizers of the 17th edition of the National Youth Festival (NYF), which is being held in Mangalore from Jan 12 to Jan 16, at a press meet held at TMA Pai Convention Centre today.
Even as I. R. Perumal, the principal secretary of the department of youth services and sports of the government of Karnataka, thanked the media for providing excellent coverage to the event, reporters flayed him for not providing proper facilities for the media to cover the events and for not providing information on programs and timings. They complained that the media was not even provided proper seating facilities, with reporters and photographers being forced to sit on the floor at certain events held in TMA Pai Convention Hall.
They also raised the issue of disrespect shown towards mayor Praveen, who was asked to get up from the place to leave the seats for zilla panchayat official Nazeer’s family members.
They also complained that the organizers had not even held a press conference after the commencement of the event, but had called them only to thank them and give gifts of bags and bedspreads.
Media representatives also rejected the gifts and boycotted the press meet in front of DC Dr. N. S. Channappa Gowda and ZP CEO Dr. K. N. Vijayaprakash.
Mr. Perumal further said that the entire city has participated in the 17th edition of the National Youth Festival (NYF), making it a lively and successful event. He also said that the Mangalore was especially selected because of its excellent facilities such as easy access, transport, hospitality, and so on.
Expressing his appreciation of the city police, he said that they have put in a lot of efforts to control the traffic and maintain law and order.
