Mangalore, March 13: A seven-year-old boy was crushed to death early in the morning of Sunday when a mini lorry dashed into a motorbike in front of the Mangaladevi Temple in Jeppu.
The deceased is Prajwal, the son of Ravi Rao Acharya of Hoige Bazaar. A student of Std I, he was returned home with his grandfather Shama Rao Acharya (58). Shama Rao has broken his hand in the accident. The two were returned home after coffee and shopping. Shama Rao and his son Ravi run a lathe business in Hoige Bazaar.
The accident took place when Mr. Rao was taking a deviation near Mangaladevi Temple. The truck laden with fruits hit the motorbike from behind. Prajwal was flung off the bike and rolled over by the lorry. Shama Rao, who was thrown off in the opposite direction, had a miraculous escape and is now taking treatment for a fractured hand.
The local people have urged Inspector Gopalkrishna Rao, who visited the spot, to take steps to construct speed breakers on the Pandeshwar – Mangaladevi stretch as well as the Mangaladevi Temple – Cascia High School stretch of the road.
The truck driver fled immediately after the accident. The traffic east police have registered a case.
