Mangalore, Feb 12, 2013: Fr Joseph Peter Tauro(74), former priest of Mangalore Diocese, who passed away recently following Congestive Cardiac Failure, was laid to rest at St Vincent Ferrar Church, Valencia on  February 12  in the presence of several  religious heads and laity.

Mangalore Bishop Rev. Dr  Aloysius Paul D’Souza, celebrated the funeral mass. Dr Gerald Isaac Lobo, Bishop of Udupi Diocese and Fr Denis Moras Prabhu, Vicar General of Mangalore Diocese were the concelebrants.

In his homily, Fr Victor Machado, Parish Priest of Bejai Church, Bendore, said  Fr JP Tauro had led a very meaningful priestly life by sharing God’s love with the laity  as a mediator.
Fr Vincent Monteiro, Director of Mangalore Diocesan Pastoral Institute  also mourned the death of Fr JP Tauro.

After the funeral mass, the mortal remains of Fr J P Tauro was taken in a procession   to the cemetry at Valencia where the last rites were held.

Several  leaders and priests including Fr Joseph Rego, Director of St Joseph Engineering College, Fr Joseph Martis, Rector of St Joseph Seminary, Fr Patrick Rodrigues, Director of FMMI, Fr William Menezes, PRO of Mangalore Diocese, Fr Francis Gomes, Fr Francis Rodrigues, Fr Vijay Victor Lobo, Fr Maxim Noronha, Fr Henry Sequeira, Fr Valerian D’Souza,  and others were present.

Late Dr JP Tauro was born at Gurupur (Kaudur) Parish on March 3,1939, to Casmir Tauro and Ignatia Lobo, Tauro was ordained a priest of the Diocese of Mangalore on December 2, 1964 after his  priestly studies at St Joseph’s Seminary, Mangalore. Fr Tauro had served as a  priest for the last 48 years. He had served as assistant parish priest of Karkala, Attur and Valencia parishes, Chaplain of Mukka Parish and as Parish Priest of Udupi, Pangala Bendur and Bejai parishes.

Fr J. P. Tauro had built number of infrastructures in the parishes wherever he served.    He was instrumental in setting up the Udupi church and priests’ residences in Mukka, Pangala, Udupi, Bendur and Bejai parishes.  He had also built a multi-purpose hall in Mukka. He had also played a vital role  in securing permission for the introduction of Pre University Course in the Lourdes Central School of Bejai.After retiring from active priestly ministry in 2010, he was rendering spiritual services at Little Sisters of the Poor, home for the aged at Bajjodi for a year and with failing health moved to Vianney Home, Kankanady, a retired priests’ home  in May 2011.
