Fishing boat sinks off Murudeshwar coast; all seven on board rescued

Mangaluru, December 23, 2025: A fishing boat, Maisha-2, which had set out to sea from the Mangaluru fishing harbour, sank near the Murudeshwar coast in the early hours of December 20.

The boat is owned by Mohammed Shareek Ul Islam, a resident of Azizuddin Road near the city harbour. It had departed from the fishing harbour on December 16 with six fishermen and a driver identified as Vavil, a native of Andhra Pradesh.


Boat sinks

The incident occurred at around 3.15 a.m. while the boat was engaged in fishing approximately 14 nautical miles off the Murudeshwar coast. The vessel reportedly capsized after being hit by strong sea waves.

Fishermen from another boat rushed to the spot and rescued all seven persons on board. They were later brought safely to shore.

A case has been registered at the Murudeshwar police station in connection with the incident. In his complaint, the boat owner stated that the mishap resulted in losses estimated at around ₹60 lakh.
