Delhi team emerges as the men’s tennis champion

Manipal, Dec 20, 2011 : Holders Delhi University won the All India Inter University Men’s Tennis Title at Manipal University, Sports Complex, Marena. The team experienced a draw against Jain University at the semi finals yesterday.

Jain University, which is participating for the first time, emerged as the second runner up when Osmania emerged as the winner. The team won the South Zone tournament title and then played the inter zone match to emerge as the third best men’s tennis team.

The finals played between Jain University and Delhi was quite exciting, since it was a 9-hour long battle before the Delhi team emerged as the champions.

While Delhi won the first and second singles, Gujarath won the doubles and the first reverse singles. Finally, the match between Sameep Mehta and Siddharth Rawath identified the winner, with the Delhi player presenting an excellent performance and winning the title for his team.

Siddarth played very well against Vaidik Munshaw and won. However, after his initial victory, he started making mistakes and lost the second game. After the third loss, he pulled himself up and started playing very well again, finally winning the title for his team.

Mr. Raghuram Shetty, the regional manager of SBI, and Dr. H. S. Ballal, the pro chancellor of Manipal University, presented the prizes.
