Mangalore, Jan 2, 2012: The Dalita Hakkugala Horata Samithi (DHHS) and the CPI (M) jointly organized today a protest in front of the DC’s office, condemning the inability of the police department to trace Sunitha, a mother of three from Harekala, who has been reported missing from Oct 24, 2011.
In their protest speech, the CPI (M) leaders criticized the police department for failing to trace the missing woman. Stating that Sunitha’s husband died 7 years back and that she was providing for her family by rolling beedies, the protestors stated that the police have still done nothing to trace the missing woman in spite of repeated pleas at SC/ST grievance meetings.
Stating that a missing person case has been booked under the SC/ST Prevention of Atrocities Act 1989 in Konaje Police Station on Oct 27, 2011, Krishnappa Konchady, a DHHS member, said that Sunitha has been missing for the past 2 months and 7 days, and the police ought to have referred the case to the CBI or the COD if they could not solve it.
Vasanth Achary, the member of the district unit of the CPI (M); Narayan Talapadi, the president of the Ullal unit of the DHHS; and Secretary Rohidas, among others, were also present.
