Mangalore, July 21: Dakshina Kannada Police and Kasargod Police have agreed to control the border crime that taking place every now and then. The decision was taken in a Border Crime Meeting held here in the city at Karnataka Bank Auditorium, Kodialbail, Mangalore on Wednesday, July 21.
Speaking after the meeting, Gopal B Hosur, Inspecter General of Police, Western Range said that various aspects of crime were discussed in the meeting. The exchange of information pertaining to the law and order, Terrorism, organized crime, women missing cases and unidentified dead bodies, leftist extremism, naxalism, communalism, conventional crimes were the main topic of the meeting. They have also taken decision how to continue the cooperation between neighbouring states He further stated that the same kind of meeting was organised a couple of months back in Kannur District of Kerala. Only the top level of officers was participated in the meeting. But this time we have included police personnel’s of all ranges, he added. Speaking about Kannur meeting, he said that the meeting was concluded with exchanging of information regarding culprits, movement of hooligans across the border and also about absconding culprits. The crime rate is reduced considerably after the meeting, he said.
Highlighting about establishing a helpline in the district police, he said a sophisticated control room will be set up to handle the help line. A nodal police officer will be deputed to handle this control room. He will take the responsibility of exchanging information with police officers working under commissionerate and he will approach the people in helping and also solving problem.
While answering about the inclusion of Kasargod police in the meeting, he said that a unique culture and tradition are followed in Mangalore and Kasargod. The history of Mangalore resembles with Kasargod. So the District police intend to keep liaison with Kasargod police. Some of the culprits, after committing crime, escape to Mangalore for shelter. The police of DK and Kasargod especially nodal officer will act quickly to exchange the information about the culprits hiding in the district, he added.
Prakash, Superintendent of police, Kasargod district expressed his gratitude to DK police for conducting a meeting of officers as well as low level police personnel’s. This kind of meeting will help to prevent the crime that is occurring off and on in the region. A nodal officer will be deputed in the Kasargod district very soon to handle the crime relared information, he said.
When media persons raised a question about illegal liquor and sand transporting from Mangalore to Kasargod, IGP cleared that district administration and police will work together to curb the illegal activities.
