Mangaluru, May 27, 2026: Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner Darshan H.V. has directed officials to take stringent measures to curb illegal slaughter of camels and cattle, unauthorized transportation of animals, and unlawful meat sales in the district ahead of the Bakrid festival.
Chairing a district-level committee meeting at the Mangaluru City Corporation office hall on measures to prevent illegal slaughter and transportation of cattle during the festival, the DC stressed strict enforcement of existing regulations.
He stated that permission from the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services is mandatory for transporting cattle and instructed officials to intensify checks at all check-posts to prevent illegal transportation of animals.
The Deputy Commissioner also said that vehicles transporting cattle must carry all required documents, including transport permits, ownership details of the cattle, buyer information, vehicle registration documents, and driver details. Officials were directed to ensure thorough verification of these documents.
He further instructed authorities to seize premises where illegal animal slaughter is found to be taking place, in accordance with the law.
Darshan H.V. noted that a district-level committee has already been constituted to prevent illegal transportation and slaughter of cattle and asked committee members to take appropriate action while ensuring coordination among all concerned departments.
Chief Veterinary Officer Dr. Ashok K.R., ASP Anil Kumar, and other officials were present at the meeting.
