Udupi, October 17, 2011 : Dr. G. Parameshwar, the president of the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) told reporters Sunday that the Congress leaders will meet Governor H. R. Bharadwaj demanding the dissolution of the BJP-led state government at the earliest possible since most of the cabinet ministers are accused of criminal activities.

Voicing his opinion that CM D. V. Sadananda Gowda should resign if he has any respect for the Indian Constitution and for democracy, he said that around 14 ministers in the Yeddyurappa-formed cabinet are accused of criminal misbehavior. R. Ashok, Renukacharya, Yogeshwar, Somanna, and even K. S. Eshwarappa, the present of the state BJP, face allegations of corruption and cheating. Fisheries Minister Vasanth Asnotikar stands accused of being involved in a Rs. 100 crore fraud case, he added.

Rubbishing reports that the Congress had celebrated the imprisonment of Yeddyurappa, Parameshwar said that this is not something to celebrate, but the party strongly feels that truth has triumphed with the arrest of the former CM. He also said that the arrest serves as a warning for all public servants, affiliated to any party, that they cannot escape the hand of the law.

Criticizing the state government for failing to solve the power problems of the state, he said that the state government’s allegations that the centre has not helped out are false. He said that the centre has released 800MW power and has supplied around 70 percent of the coal required to produce power in the state.

He said that the government would have taken a delegation to discuss power issues with the union power minister and the prime minister if it is serious about solving the power issue, adding that the government did not do this because it has “no confidence in opposition parties.” He pointed out how the state has not approached the centre seeking help with the draught problem in the state.

In response to a reporter’s query regarding the involvement of Congress leaders in illegal mining, Eshwarappa said that the Congress is demanding a CBI probe into the matter and that any Congress leaders found guilty will be punished.
