City’s only government school to get 100 percent SSLC results felicitated

Mangalore, June 26, 2012 : The high school division of Government PU Women’s College in Balmatta is proud of the fact that it is the only government school in Mangalore to get 100 percent results in the SSLC exams. The DK District Kannada Sahitya Parishad organized a congratulation meeting in honor of the students who achieved these results on the premises of Government Pre-university College in Balmatta on June 25, Monday.

Vinoda, the headmistress of the high school division, and teachers Joyce Mary, Lidwin Lobo, Vijayalaxmi, Vishalakshi, Ronald Fernandes, Abdul Khader, Sunitha, and Girish, were honored on this occasion.

MLC Captain Ganesh Karnik was the chief guest of the event. In his address, he said that students studying in government schools and colleges come from poor families, but all the top achievers of the country such as Dr. APJ Abdul Kalaam and Dr. M. Vishweshwarayya studied in government schools.


Speaking about the success of the government school in Balmatta, he said that people believe that the quality of education in government schools is poor, which is a myth. He also urged people to continue sending their daughters for higher education after SSLC and PUC.


Pradeep Kumar Kalkura, president of the DK District Kannada Sahitya Parishad, said that current education policies are the root cause of all the confusion in the education system, not teachers or educational institutions. He also voiced his opinion that English should be taught only as a language while the medium of instruction should be Kannada.


Yogish Bhat, deputy speaker of the state legislative assembly, presided. Of the total 77 students in the school, 6 students passed with distinction, 10 secured above 500, and 34 students got I Class.
