Udupi, January 20, 2026: The Sri Krishna Mutt in Udupi has enforced a strict dress code for all devotees, making it mandatory for male devotees to remove their shirts before entering the temple premises. The directive, issued by the Paryaya Shiruru Mutt, came into effect from Monday, January 19.

According to the revised guidelines, the dress code will be strictly enforced for all devotees entering the temple. Temple authorities stated that women devotees must wear modest and traditional attire, and entry will be denied to both men and women wearing jeans, T-shirts, sleeveless outfits, or other non-traditional clothing.

In addition, male devotees are required to remove their shirts before entering the inner temple premises. Earlier, this practice was applicable only to devotees attending the early morning Mahapuja before 11 am. However, under the new rule, the dress code will now be enforced throughout the day.

Temple officials said the decision was taken to preserve the sanctity, discipline, and age-old traditions of the historic Sri Krishna Mutt. “The intention is to uphold and respect the centuries-old customs of the temple,” an official said.

Devotees have been urged to cooperate with the temple administration and strictly adhere to the prescribed dress code while visiting the revered shrine.
