Mangalore, June 29: A large number of associations extended their support to Gregory Patrao and his family on the 13th day of their hunger strike, organized under the guidance of President of International Federation of Karnataka Christian Association Ronald Colaco and Women’s Wing of the Catholic Church on June 29, Tuesday.
President of Catholic Sabha Walter Pinto said that the city is being developed at the cost of the poor. He accused the KIADB of having stolen all the clothes and valuables of the Patrao family when they demolished their house. He added that they did not even leave the dogs’ chains.
President of Teachers’ Association of Mangalore University Hayavadhana Upadhyaya said that the government is forcibly taking away the land of the poor in the name of development. He also accused the district commissioner and the police department of being apathetic toward Gregory Patrao. He said that the people’s cry must reach the chief minister through the DC. Development at the cost of the Patrao family is not required, he declared.
Fr. Hannibol Cabral, Leena Roche, Prashant Jathanna, Louis Lobo, Wilfred, Johnson Almeida, Godwin Pinto, and Robin participated in the protest.
